‚ÄčThe Grand Rapids School District is Michigan’s fourth largest school district and serves over 17,000 students in 27 elementary schools, 17 middle schools, 8 high schools, 5 Centers of Innovation, 3 Success Centers, 1 charter school, 13 theme schools, 2 Juvenile Justice Centers, and 13 special education schools.

Students come from nearly 70 counties with 49 languages spoken. In 2008, the Grand Rapids school district was recognized as a ‘model’ urban school district which utilizes an effort-based learning model. There are also 10 private elementary and middle schools and 10 private high schools in the school district offering instruction in both religious and secular environments.

Families can keep in touch with school and district activity through a district newpaper called “We Are GR,” and on a Facebook school district page. Grand Rapids athletics has a dedicated website featuring several of the high schools’ team mascots.
