Kentwood

Kentwood, Michigan is a city in Kent County adjacent to Grand Rapids. The city was incorporated in 1967 and was named in memory of James Kent, an American jurist and legal scholar born in 1763. The city is comprised of 20+ square miles and had 49,694 residents in 2012 with a median age of 40.5.

Lake Michigan is minutes away, offering waves and deep waters for boating, swimming and skiing. Charming seaside villages feature quaint shops, restaurants and historic attractions.

It’s a short drive to downtown Grand Rapids where an array of cultural and entertainment activities are in constant motion, including the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids, St. Cecilia Music Society and Grand Rapids Ballet. Theater lovers can choose from the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Actor's Theater, Circle Theater, Heritage Theatre Group and Broadway Theater Guild offering every type of show from comedy to drama to musical.

ABOUT EDUCATION

The Kentwood Public School system includes ten elementary schools, three middle schools, one freshman campus and one high school. There are approximately 8500 students. The Kentwood Falcon is the team mascot. School athletics are part of community life; the high school offers 29 varsity sports. School academics are an important focus and meet state standards.
